I feel like a lot of online popularity happens by some sort of “lucky break,” but I do have a few tips!
Tip #1 - Don’t worry about how many followers you have! It really means NOTHING. I know AMAZING cosplayers who have very few followers and really mediocre cosplayers who have thousands, so please don’t judge your self worth based on your follower count! :)
Tip #2 - One of the most important things (that it seems like you do) is to update REALLY regularly - at least once every few days. Basically, you want people to learn your name! :)
Tip #3 - Quality content. With the internet the way it is, it is really easy to scroll through things if something doesn’t grab your attention. Whatever you choose to post (Cosplay pictures, WIP shots, tutorials, etc), try to post things with images or video rather than straight text. Think about what you would actually look at if it shows up in your feed! (We kinda break this rule since I have a BAD habit of long text posts :X) I know a lot of cosplayers save their pictures after a con, releasing one a day or one every few days (we always get so excited and want to share them so we fail at that too. :P) so that you have more content to show over a longer time period. Even if you aren’t working on cosplay things, take selfies or share pictures to keep your page relevant. :)
Tip #4 - Networking. I cannot stress this enough. Meet other cosplayers and become friends/acquaintances with them! If you know someone, it is easy to link to their page, and I’m sure they’ll return the favor! Same goes for cosplay photographers and other people at the cons! (Also, seriously, who doesn’t want more cosplay friends. I love cosplay friends. I love all of you cosplayers because you are all so fantastic and amazing *w* Everyone is my senpai)
Tip #5 - Reread Tip #1!!!!!
Also, if anyone wants me to post links to their cosfacebooks/tumblrs, you are always welcome to submit!! No promises on follower increase (most of our followers are here for the tutorials based on activity patterns ;) or maybe you’re all here to read these long posts ;) ;) ), but ANY COSPLAY-RELATED SUBMISSION IS ALWAYS WELCOME ON THIS BLOG! :D
I hope this helped at least a little, Anon. :) Really though - don’t worry about follower count, just try to make cosfriends and you’ll be a lot happier. :) Also - never be intimidated by other cosplayers! Believe me, I nearly cry every time someone comes up to me at a con and wants to talk ;w;
